The most common DIY mistake when installing curtains is incorrect measurement. A track that's too short looks awkward and doesn't provide coverage. One that's too long simply won't fit. Follow this simple guide to get it right the first time.
Step 1: Decide on the Mount
-
Inside Mount: The track is installed within the window recess. Looks very clean and built-in.
-
Outside Mount: The track is installed on the wall above the window frame. Makes the window look larger and ensures maximum light blocking.
Step 2: How to Measure
-
For an INSIDE Mount: Measure the exact width of the window recess at the top, and also check the depth to ensure there's enough space for the track and brackets.
-
For an OUTSIDE Mount: Measure the width you want the track to cover. We recommend the track extends 15-20cm (6-8 inches) on each side of the window glass. This allows you to open the curtains completely off the window, flooding the room with light.
Step 3: Record Your Length
For both types of mounts, the final track length is the width you just measured.
